water color

For this series of watercolors, every pigment is handmade. From blueberries for the sea to honey suckle for the skies and car exhaust for the black wetsuits. Gum Arabic is used as a binder. For archival purposes, each piece is treated with a UV protective coating. (recommend framing behind UV protective glass as well. These pigments are fugitive, naturally.)

The illusion of symmetry. From butterfly wings to Twin Towers, I am attracted to the idea of symmetrical objects, images, and actions. But nothing, artifical or natural, is ever perfectly symmetrical, upon close inspection. The notion that something could be, I think, is a defining characteristic of being human.
